My '01 has been pretty darn good. The steering rack was replaced under warranty a week after we bought it. It was leaking into the drivers side bellows area and I was told that it was probably a factory flaw that went unnoticed for the first 3 years it was on the road. The only other thing was a leaking lower intake manifold gasket that was repaired under my extended warranty at about 36k miles. Since then (now 40k miles), everything has been great - knock on wood...

Here is my list. I love the car, but being an owner can be a struggle at times.

This is not a complete list, just the major items:

Front wheel speed sensor (2 times)
A/C has never blown cold consistently
Steering rack replaced (new one has a much wider turning radius)
Headlight seals failed (both sides)
Seat Heaters (element under the seat - 2 times)
Lights on the dash (just about all of them have gone out and been replaced)
Tie Rod Ends (both sides - 2 times each side)
Rear Brake cable sticks (only fix is to replace)
Valve cover gaskets failed (front and back)
Alternator failed (2 times)
Intermediate shaft lube (3 times & needs another one)
Radio died
Radio lights (after radio replacement)
Both rear window regulators
Trans now going bad (I am at 92K miles)
Catalytic Converter now bad
Higher Insurance Rates (my accelorator pedal works just fine)

I've had some troubles but some people got it bad.

Had water leaks
seat heaters replaced
Brakes, but after replacing with slotted and cross drilled rotors and ceramic pads I haven't had to change the fronts for about 20k, backs have never been replaced and
I have 52k on my 01.
passenger window front and rear actuators.

With all this talk of problems i'm getting paranoid. My SE has 82,000 on the clock.

My passenger front window is bad
My passenger back door doesn't seal quite right

Really that'* about it. My car is an 02, I have had it for about 16 months.

I was thinking of going and looking a an 02 SSEi tomorrow. It is BLACK, with grey leather interior no sunroof and as far as the heated seat I have no idea.

In some honest opinions should I go look at it or no??

What would be a good price for it (i know it depends on the miles), but just a ballpark would do.

Thanks for all the help,

Mac

I found mine about a year and a half ago with 24k miles and paid $17k +tax/title/license and bumper to bumper zero deductable warranty. Total out the door was just over $20k.

Just telling you that because there are low mileage, just off lease vehicles out there if you are lucky enough to find one, you better jump on it because you won't get a sweeter deal.

I picked up my 02 in jan with 44k on the odometer, which was hard to find since there are like no 00+ SSEis floating for sale around GR. It cost me about 17 out the door after everything since I had a 3500 dollar trade in on my blazer.

75,000 is just breaking in these blocks. I woulud not be afraid to get one with higher than normal mileage.
