Having had the intermediate shaft lubed during the warranty period and before I knew it was so widespread of a problem, now the shaft is making noise again. Of course, the car is well out of warranty at 56,000 miles. I have also heard that the 2000 pickups have the same problem.
My question is if anyone has gotten the dealer/GM to pick up the cost of a replacement when their car was out of warranty and if so, how many miles did the car have on it?
Did it take a lot of persuasion if successful or did you have to pitch a fit?

I got exactly the same problem with my 2000 SSEI. It was lubed once under warranty and needs it again at 40,000 miles. INPUT ?
Is this a procedure that I can do myself, rather than paying a dealer every couple
of years? Anyone got the procedure or service bulletin info?
Sucks that it wasn't fixed permanently under warranty.

What I'm not sure about is if it is just a lubrication problem or is it something more like the shaft is wearing out and needs to be replaced. The dealer told me it would be $130 for them to relube the shaft and I didn't even ask about the cost of replacing it.

If you have a manual you can tackle the lube yourself, its not easy to get too and thats why the shop has a big price tag on it :?
There is also no known fix although gm has said they are working on one.
Someone posted the service bulletin a while back on it....do a quick search to read up on it.
