Intermediate shaft problems/warranty
Having had the intermediate shaft lubed during the warranty period and before I knew it was so widespread of a problem, now the shaft is making noise again. Of course, the car is well out of warranty at 56,000 miles. I have also heard that the 2000 pickups have the same problem.
My question is if anyone has gotten the dealer/GM to pick up the cost of a replacement when their car was out of warranty and if so, how many miles did the car have on it? Did it take a lot of persuasion if successful or did you have to pitch a fit? |
steering shaft
I got exactly the same problem with my 2000 SSEI. It was lubed once under warranty and needs it again at 40,000 miles. INPUT ?
Is this a procedure that I can do myself, rather than paying a dealer every couple of years? Anyone got the procedure or service bulletin info? Sucks that it wasn't fixed permanently under warranty. |
What I'm not sure about is if it is just a lubrication problem or is it something more like the shaft is wearing out and needs to be replaced. The dealer told me it would be $130 for them to relube the shaft and I didn't even ask about the cost of replacing it.

If you have a manual you can tackle the lube yourself, its not easy to get too and thats why the shop has a big price tag on it :?
There is also no known fix although gm has said they are working on one. Someone posted the service bulletin a while back on it....do a quick search to read up on it. |
