Default intermediate shaft dangerous or just annoying?

got a letter from pontiac saying that on my last visit they would reccommend a intermediate shaft replacement at a cost of $460+ dollars. My wheel does make a weird gringding noise only at slow speeds when Im parking etc.. is it dangerous or just an annoyance? I dont mind it too much, sure better than spending almost 500 for it. if it is dangerous to drive with the way it is I will get it changed out soon. It was lubed once at the dealership around 40k miles mark now at 90k.

Confirming with the rest:

Just an annoyance. Lube or replace with the revised part if it gets to you.

Quite easy repair actually...and yes, I found it highly annoying.

It'* really bad in our GS. Haven't gotten to it yet. The engine bay is too dang cramped....so I haven't made it a priority yet!
