Default HVAC problem ?

My 01 SSEi has the automatic HVAC temperature control system. In the last couple of weeks, I noticed that the A/C air temperature from the dash vents on the driver'* side is warmer than on the passenger side - more humid also. I have fiddled with the control ***** (turned off the system and restarted, turned off the passenger control ****, changed temperatures), checked fuses, etc., but to no avail. I got it to blow cold one time briefly, then it warmed up again. The driver side is blowing warmer air, whereas the passenger side is blowing cold air. The air duct to the rear passenger seats is at a temperature between the front 2. I also notice that the defrost doesn't seem to be working as well as it used to - windshield on the driver side is starting to fog more. It doesn't seem like it is low on refrigerant however.

Could one of the temperature sensors in the dash be going out ? Would an error show up in if scanned with a tool?

Any other ideas what to check before going to the dealer ? ($$) The car is not under warranty anymore.

It sounds as if you have a problem with the air-mix actuator for the driver'* side. There are some DTCs listed for the air mix problem. They are "B" codes...

. DTC B0233 Air Mix Door Circuit Range
. DTC B0234 Air Mix Door #1 Range Error
. DTC B0237 Air Mix Door #1 Inoperative
. DTC B0238 Mode Door Circuit Range
. DTC B0249 Heater/Defrost/AC Door Range Error
. DTC B0252 Heater/Defrost/AC Door Inoperative Error
. DTC B0268 Air Inlet Door Circuit Range
. DTC B0269 Air Inlet Door Range Error
. DTC B0272 Air Inlet Door Inoperative
. DTC B0279 Air Mix Door #2 Range Error
. DTC B0282 Air Mix Door #2 Inoperative

I'm not sure if most code readers can pull these or if they are dealer only codes.

Thanks. I talked with the dealer service dept yesterday and they mentioned that they've experienced and corrected this problem on a couple of bonnevilles over the past year - in both cases they were the door air-mix actuator, which sounds on track with what you state above under error codes. Their HVAC mechanic comes in tomorrow - I made an appointment for then.

Took it in Friday to the dealer service dept - they diagnosed and changed out the WRONG door actuator! Changed out the passenger side - will bring it in to change out the driver side tomorrow at no extra charge to me.

(I hate when this happens ....)

Oh well !

It does make you wonder how something like that can happen. Did the service advisor write it up wrong, or the tech just not pay attention? I'd think that they should do it right for "free", but you still have to go through the hassle of going through it all again. Hope that'* the last trip you have to make for a while.

Often it'* not the mistakes that are made but how a business handles the mistake that makes up for the inconvenience. If they sort of laugh and say ooops, and try to make it as painless for you to get it right, you want to go back there knowing they'll try to be fair.

Same dealer. It was written up correctly and the tech read and understood the issue, but somehow he was thinking backwards when he did the work. They told me to bring it back in tomorrow and they will replace the other correct one for free and check it out better next time. (Ha ha) We'll see what happens ....

(hopefully they don't change something else out that doesn't need fixed !)
