GXP/Aurora airbox gut?
Ok, here'* the airbox on my Aurora. It is the same on that Pontiac started using on the GXP in 2004. To me it doesn't look like it is restricted all that much. By removing that wall between the PCM and the air filter, will I see any difference do you think? also, if I made a CAI with a tube that ran from the bumper to the air filter section, will the PCM get too warm? Does the air flow go THROUGH my PCM to keep it cool, or is it routed that way just because of space issues?

Thats an awkward looking box?
The last pic shows the resonator tube which feeds the small air box above, I would think gutting this out and opening up more flow would help?
If you remove the whole box entirely (with the pcm out too) is there a large hole into the fender well? If there is a 3" or larger diameter hole you could use a Fwi kit from Intense?

alright. I got the airbox gutted today. So far I've noticed a very aggressive sound.. I really like it. and my car sounds turbocharged now. lol. as the RPM'* get near 7,000 I get a whistling sound that sound like a turbo'* blow off valve. It makes that psshhh sound as it shifts too. Kinda cool I guess. lol. anyways, onto the pictures!

The "resonator" in the air box capped off using a prescription bottle lid.
The resonator goes along side the airbox and sounds like it'* full of something similar to sand to absorb sound?

Snorkle that connected the two boxes together removed. The diameter was only about 2.5"

and the airbox half gutted. I only did the side nearest the air inlet by the headlight. I figured this would be enough air. I cut it out then used a lighter to melt the jagged edges to make them smoother. I couldn't get any kind of sander/grinder in that tight space to do anything but melt it.

I believe that the pcm is in the air box to keep it cooler than the underhood temps would allow. I'm not exactly sure that is the reason, but it does make sense.

am i wrong, or does it look like he has a hole in the fender large enough to shove some cai piping through? where does that hole go?
