Default Exhaust Question?

I have a question for all you.
I have owned my 2001 SSEi for 19 days now. On day 8, the Service Engine Light came on. I took it back to the dealer. The stated that they cats were clogged and would need replacement. It is still covered by factory warranty and will not need to use the extended PrimusCare insurance. They also said that the the cats,exhaust,.... were all one piece and would need a whole system replaced! I said GREAT! They said it would take 2-3 days to order and started the process. That was 30 Aug. With the weekend being long(Labor Day) I didn't bother them untill yesterday.(8 days) The service manager told me (I had to call them back, they never called me), "The exhaust systems are ALL on backorder and Pontiac is investigating the problem to see why so many exhausts are failing on the SSEi. So you have to wait until Pontiac comes to a decision."

Has anyone heard such BULL !!?
Is anyone else having clogged exhaust problems !!?

I just know that the SES light is on, there feels like there is NO boost anymore !!
I bought it because it outpulled the Mustangs I tested !!
Now I have a NEW car that runs like crap, SES in my face, still dealing with therapy from the wreck, lawyers, insurance companies, no settlements for the other car yet, said car still sitting broke in street in front of house, AAAAAAAAAGGGGGGHHHHHHHHH !!!!
My wife is bitching to take the Bonni back, get something else, this sucks !!
I think I'm going to call the Primus deal and see if they will let me find an exhaust place and let me pay my $100 for someone else to do it! Since Pontiac will not act.

Anyone have any advice, answers, inside wisdom from Pontiac ?

I'm taking the liberty of moving this from the Electrical forum into the 2000+ forum.

I'd also like to add that this is the first we've heard of this. My gut tells me your dealer screwed up and forgot to order it, and is using this as an excuse. If there were a serious problem, this is certainly the first place it would show up.

I've been wrong before. Once I think. But I may be mistaken about that.

There'* the down pipe -- convertor --resonator --y pipe--mufflers --tips.
I see no need to change the entire exhaust system, if the cat is faulty then change only it out.

I also checked the GM service site for any tsb'* and there was only one for exhaust. It mentions for the servicemen not to replace the whole exhaust just the muffler (July 1 2004) and listed part #'* for various gm models. No mention of the cat either.

I suspect the dealer is up to something, as long as its warranty and your not out of pocket I say let change it out? Just not sure why they would do that?

Keep your cool.
It'* under warranty and the dealer is taking action to get you running at peak pulling power soon.
It may well be a clogged or faulty Cat.
If you can go under your car ( in a properly safe jackstand operation ) you can simply undo the 4 nuts that connect the downpipe flange to the Cat. This will in effect bypass the Cat and entire exhaust system.
Sure it will be loud as hell. ....but it will demonstrate if your loss of power is really caused by a blocked exhaust system.
Then just reconnect it after the trial.

Don't worry about the SES light. It'* meant to look intimidating but your engine won't blow up.
You should invest in a simple code reader that can also clear the SES light. Some are less than $100.

I called this morning, like I do EVERY day now, and they said "it is still in review".
So no answer yet, another day to go.
I really want to have it fixed but I want the warranty intact.

"Hurry up and wait"

I thought that phrase only applies to the Army, happens every day!

All my friends and family tell me to take the car back, but I need to hang tuff!
I love this new car and "They'll have to pry it from my cold, dead fingers!"

Peace

Default Exhaust Blues.....

Well...............
It is now 12 Oct. She went to Pontiac on 16 Sep. They gave me a loaner.
A Daewoo !?!?!?! Here we are on week 6.........Still no answers.... I call Pontiac
every Monday to hear the same thing......SURELY someone somewhere has some damn
answers! I don't know what to do!
The dealership I bought it from (David Stanley Chevrolet) advised Pontiac that they were tired of me harassing them and told me to take it to a Pontiac dealer. That'* why Ferguson Pontiac in Norman now has it. At least they gave me another car to drive!

Does anyone work for Pontiac that has some info?
This is WHACK! In 2 months I've only got to drive 2 weeks?

Have you filed a complaint with Pontiac Customer Service yet? If not, please do so. Be as concise and detailed as possible. If you get no positive response in 2 days, PM me all the information including your complaint number.

Default Exhaust Blues.....

Yes....I have.
I have 3 tickets at the GM owner center.
1-256673940 - 30 Aug 04 (The first complaint from me, They closed it ??This is where David Stanley Chevy got tired of me calling and closed it 6 Oct)
1-264792126 - 16 Sep 04 (Would not let me register VIN #, they wanted copy of Title or Ins Verification 1st. So, I faxed it today. Even though I havn't bought the tag yet,
it'* still sitting at Pontiac with the paper tag from 20 Aug in the window!)
1-264792130 - Service Call (This is the NEW ticket for exhaust replacement)

I called them(GM) again today and they told me that the Parts Dept. from where I'm
having it fixed would know some answers. But Parts yesterday told me that
they have no idea when the replacement would be coming in. They said the WHOLE
exhaust would need replacing! So, I wait, longer......

Tina Wells at GM customer service was off today, so she would call later...???
She hasn't called me back in a week and a half. I can hold my breath.............
I have 1-866-694-6546 for GM Owner Center
1-866-942-4368 for GM Registration
1-866-278-1775 for GM Fax
405-632-3600 for David Stanley Chevy(Where I bought it)
405-321-5820 for Ferguson Pontiac(Where she'* at now)

I can't believe no one knows nothing.
I can't believe that Pontiac would let this go this long and just let a customer stay
hanging! I guess I could see a low priced car getting no attention, but come on!

This all is making me miss my Ford ZX2 alot! The problems I had with it (fuel pump,
leaking windshield seal) was taken care of immediately! With a nice big Ram pickup
to use while they serviced it. This Bonnie is the most expensive car I've ever bought
and I guess I expected more from Pontiac.

Safe Journey,

Ron Travis
