Sorry Alex, that wasn't intended to be aimed at you at all. You are one of the most anal people on this forum and take great care of your car. I am not trying to call neglect in this scenario, it wasn't your fault. I really was referring to others that ignore the facts and then post a sob story when it blows. You however put alot of time into your car and I would never blame this on you. Bad timing right after the extensive bodywork and paint is all. I don't blame a guy for trying to enjoy a car he has been working on for so long and then be bummed that this hits immediately after.

This is news.
Are aluminum UIMs now available for the L36?

The Series III have aluminum UIMs. They look identical to the composite predecessor so I assume it is a bolt-on part.

It is not a bolt-on part. Nor is it necessary. Following our Techinfo guide will lead you to a permanent repair.

Good to know. What are the differences? I was hoping to install one on my car so I could port it whereas the composite cannot be ported. An aluminum UIM would also eliminate the possibility of the UIM softening up from heat(although a reduced diameter stovepipe should fix this with a composite intake).

Alex,

Still curious to hear whether this was a UIM or LIM gasket issue (or something else).
