My bonne just got back from the repair shop, some kid backed into my car and scratched and gouged the front bumper. Luckly a woman sitting in a van wrote down his plate number. To make a long story short the repair guy told me to hit GM up for my hood because it had oxidization in 2 spots, and to fix it properly is pretty pricey. Gonna go to GM tomorrow and see what they say, i probably won't have any more luck than the rest of you, but i'll let you know what BS they shoot at me.

Had the same problem. Oxidation is caused by a crappy clear coat that allows water and moisture eventually to get through. I ended up speaking to the Service Director at the dealership and he did a courtesy repaint on mine. GM warranties paint for 7 years I think, if you can find a dealer or paint guy to write up the damage in painters language,-you may have a case and a chance that GM will have it repainted for you.
I bought a 2001 SLE in July of 2003 with 45,000 miles on it and GM replaced the hood and repainted it for free. It had bubbling paint in many areas around the edges. Any questions email me at bmoody@colorhouse.com

I've noticed some postings about hood bubbling on vehicles with aluminum hoods.I have a 2002 SLE that has developed this problem on the inside edge at the front-where the outer panel is folded over the inner.I note some have said it will not develop into a full blooded hole.I work for the US Postal Service vehicle maintenance facility, and have quite a bit of experience with aluminum body panels and corrosion as our small postal trucks are aluminum bodied.I am not sure about other areas of the country, but assure you aluminum bodies here in New York do indeed corrode thru. There are trucks at my facility (Syracuse, N.Y.) that have holes corroded thru the side panels. It is not a problem for alot of vehicles- actually few have the problem-but it is occuring. The holes are always located around the rivets that hold the panels together, which points to a problem with aluminum where it is uncoated with paint or has had the coating wore thin or thru.I have seen corrosion where there are no rivets, but have never seen it gone so far as to be a hole.I would be willing to bet that it will eventually become a hole a few years down the road. Our trucks are 1987 to 1994 vintage.I know of no way to prevent this corrosion-the problems I've seen are due to lack of paint or the paint wearing thru.I believe the corrosion on the underside of the hood starts between the inner and outer hood panels where there is no paint or primer at all, and slowly migrates to where it becomes visible.Unless GM puts a coating on these panels before they are assembled, we'll always have a problem.I believe Dupont paint company also had a technical bulleting on hood paint problems, but could'nt find a copy.A local automotive paint store that supplies dupont (other manufactures probably also have a bulletin) paints should be able to produce one-but may not provide it unless you are a professional painter or body shop.
