Greetings, I am the new owner of a 2000 SSEi. This is my 5th Bonneville. These cars are wonderful!

I don't know if this is posted in the correct area or not, but here is the question. I was not given an owners manual for the vehicle but I have one on order. There is a 12 inch antenna on the rear window (top right). It looks like a typical cell phone antenna. The car does have on-star, but is this antenna for on-star, the AM-FM radio, or was it for an aftermarket cell phone? I haven't had the chance to closely examine it yet (workin' too much). To track the wire, I might have to remove part of the headliner and I'd prefer to not do that.

I've looked at several other Bonnevilles in the lot at work and 2 of the 3 have a similar antenna in the same location. If anybody knows if this is a stock antenna, let me know and I'll just leave it alone. Thanks in advance.

that antenna is for the Onstar....all the Bonnes that are Equipped with Onstar have this antenna


your Radio antenna is in the front WS on the pass side

Yeah, that antenna is for the OnStar System only. If you go to Pontiac.com and look at the upper right side you'll see a link called "Owner'* Center." If you click on it and register one of the benefits is you can access an Adobe PDF version of your owner'* manual. Although I did get one when I bought my car, I find it much easier to just open the PDF file for quick reference while on the computer.

Yep, built into the windshield. It makes it an expensive bugger to replace too. Well it cost my insurance company a lot anyway

Absolutely go the pdf route, much easier than thumbing throught the book.

Anyway, I not so sure about the OnStar antenna being the one on the rear glass. I found this while researching another problem I'm dealing with:

Diversity Antenna System

Your AM-FM antennas are located in the front
windshield and rear window. Be sure that the inside
surfaces of the front windshield and rear window are not
scratched and that the lines on the glass are not
damaged. If the inside surfaces are damaged, they could
interfere with radio reception.

well, i took it off. no noticeable difference in radio.

i dont use onstar, or id be happy to let you know if it doesnt work anymore.

The Onstar antenna is attached to the outside upper right of the rear window, and looks like a standard cellular phone antenna. The broadcast radio antennas are part of the grid of wires that are on the glass similar to the electric defrosting elements.
