Default Another Intermediate Shaft

I went thru and did the Intermediate Steering Shaft Repair/Replacement procedure with no problem. The lube that it came with ended up coming out but I had some gm lube around so I applied a few squirts down the shaft. Only thing I ran into was that the bottom plastic tube (cover) for the lower part of the shaft came off got frustrated with it and didn't put it back on.

My problem now is after @ 1k miles I am getting the popping sound again and I don't know what is the cause. Is this a sign that I just need to replace the part or did I not put enough lube down the shaft?

Also, when I pulled the shaft out the first time I noticed the lube on it was clear and not greasy it that helps with anything....

Maybe a strut mount bearing is going?

IIRC, you have to re-lube these periodically or flat out replace it with the redesigned part.
