Default 2004 SLE Intermediate Shaft

Has anyone had the new shaft put in on a car out of warranty by GM? This car only has 25000 miles on it,I started feeling it right about the time the warranty was up, the service manager said it wasn't a safety concern and that there was no recall at the time.I called the dealer the other day to price the shaft since you can't get them after market $166.00 was the price,he told me I should go in and talk to the service manager, that GM was trying to create a little good will and might do something.I looked on the internet for the shaft and all I came up with were places that people were complaining about these failures and about multiple rack & pinion replacements in low mileage cars, hope this is not real common ,the reason we bought this car was because of how good a car our 1992 has been and still is with 177000 miles with no major problems.Hope they didn't go backwards with quality, right now the 2004 is great to drive other than the shaft problem. Thanks Dennis

Thanks I found this on the internet and saved it but the other sites with more current dates said the greasing is only a temporary fix there is a better designed shaft now.

The dealer replaced it today as a one time customer loyalty deal, good for me,it does cause loyalty when the dealer takes care of you.
