2003 Developed a Wine (fixed)
I noticed on my travel home from up north this weekend, that my car had developed a wine. It is hard to describe, but it wines when accelerating. As soon as you hit a speed and hold it, the wine stops. Step on the gas and you can hear it again. Not there on decel. It is hard to tell what it is coming from. I know this description may be quite vague, but does anybody have any ideas what I might start looking into..?

Not supercharged, but that is a good idea. It sounds like a bearing wine, but it is just hard to tell what it is coming from. You can hear it good while driving, but I am sure that is just because it is resinating through.. But you can only here it when accelorating. If I put the cruise on , you can't hear it. Soon as you step on the gas, you can hear it again. Know if a way to test the alternator bearing to see if it is bad.

Take off teh belt and turn the pulley by hand. Check it for play. Also check all pulleys, water pump, power steering, tensioners, idlers. Also look close at your AC compressor. Inspect your belt. I would also check your trans fluid level.
I had a chance to check what you suggested. The tranny level is good, however when I rev the car up while standing by the serpentine belt, I can hear the wine. So I am letting the car cool, so I can take the belt off and check the pulleys. It sounds like it is either coming from the alternator or the tenshioner.
I'll let you know if I find it for sure, but thanks so much for the tips..
