Default 2002 SSEi - trunk won't open with buttons

So, my trunk will not open with the key fob or the button in the car. I thought the relay might have failed, so I pulled up the rear seat to check it. Didn't even have to pull the relay and swap it. I hit the button with fuse block open. I could hear the relay tripping back and forth, so I know it'* working.

So, what else could be the problem? The latch opens with the key, thankfully, so it'* not some sort of HOLY CRAP I NEED TO FIX THIS NOW thing.

may be the lock on the deck lid itself. it plugs into the rear harness of the car

There is an actuator assembled to the latch that is activated when you hit the button. Check to see if the actuator is getting voltage when you hit the button, and observe it to see what it is doing. Could be a wiring issue, but probably a failed actuator.

Well, I have the carpet off the top so I can get to it. I'll check for voltage tomorrow during light.

Hopefully the actuator is what failed and not the wiring.

just because a relay clicks doesnt meen it works. most of the time when they go bad its the load side contacts that wear out or get carboned up, so they click but you dont get continuity or power to the load.

To be sure, I swapped it with a known good.

Did the same thing.

ok, carry on then. if you dont get voltage at the actuator check the relay sockets sometimes those loosen up
