Hello everyone...

I am new to the forum but not new to forums in general. I am posting for a friend of mine that is having a problem with his 2002 SSEi. He and I are both Pontiac supporters and have been for many years. On with the question.....

My buddy is telling me that he is having a problem with the seat heater. When he pushes the button to activate it, it kicks off after about 2 to 3 seconds. The fuse looks good. Is there something we can look for?

my passenger one is doin the same thing from what i have read on the forums you need a new heating element in the seat they break over time and will make the switch come on for 2-3 seconds and then stop working not sure how much the element is but i have been told to just lay it down over the old one dont try to take the old one out cause you'll kill the foam

There is a trace wire in the seat heating element. When the wire get'* broken, the system determines that there is a short in the heating element and shuts it off. The heating element will have to be replaced and like sawgunner said, lay the new one over the top of the old.

Thank you for the information. I'll let my buddy know about this. I am assuming that the seat must be removed, and the seat cover removed, correct?

shouldn't have to i can pull my lower seat leather up off the cushion but haven't really looked to hard into it there are plastic tabs on the front just have to push down and pull them foward dont know what holds the back on i would assume just recline it all the ay back and figure out how the leather is on there on the bottom of the back they just slip on

I just fixed my seat on the GXP. I had a broken wire AND a bad module.

It'* most likely the pads. Start by finding the module, unplg the small plug and check the resistance of the pads. The pads are in series, so no resistance means a broken wire or bad pad.
You can compare the resistance to the Good passenger side.

If resistance seems to be OK, swap the modules.
I would suggest taking the module off the BAD seat and put it on the Good seat.
If the Good seat still works, the module is OK. The modules can be swapped without pulling the seats.
