Default 2001 SSEi with slight surge under light load

Yeah I know I have read a bunch on these forums about this problem. Many of them point to the pressure control solenoid as a likely possibility. I went to Advance Auto today and got it scanned and nothing showed up on the scanner as a problem.

Will a faulty pressure control solenoid always cause a code if this is the problem?

The 'surging' isn't a terrible surge, it is just noticable and almost acts like the engine is missing at times.

The car only had 70,000 miles on it and I just got the car 3 days ago.
Already the rear window regulator has gone out but that isn't a big deal.

I am just concerned about this since on this forum I have read some bad stories about this destroying a transmission so I wanted to see what the symptoms are and if they have to set off a code for this solenoid to be bad.

Never had any trouble like this from my 96, this is making me start to regret buying a newer one.

Thanks for the advice...
