Default 2000 Ssei dying problem

Hello, All-
I have a problem with my 2000 Ssei I hope to get some suggestions for. It recently started dying with no warning. I will be going down the road, or even just warming it up, and it just dies with no warning. No roughness, etc. Turn the key off and it fires right up. Runs fine until it dies again. The lights and everything stay on. Just the engine dies. It won't restart unless you turn the key to the off position first, you can't just try it from the on position, or it won't start. Tonight it died 3 times in about 2 miles. We just got back from a 1000 mile trip and it ran great. It has about 170K on it. I'm stumped.
Any suggestions?
Thanks,
Mike

Scan it for any codes. Start with checking the crank sensor. If the signal is going out on that the ICM will not get the signal to spark the coils.

This is very common with our motors. Likely you won't have any codes, you won't have any info, just the torture of the car stalling out w/o warning or reason.

This is so common that I'm going to say, shotgun a crank sensor onto it. Your chances of it being the sensor are up around 95%

x3 on the crankshaft position sensor. I experienced the exact same symptoms and that fixed it for me.
