Staying well away from all air bags, turn the ignition switch to the ON position.
can i get a pic of someone doing this

Without power the SIR system will not deploy, it is disabled.

SIR Service Precautions

Caution
When you are performing service on or near the SIR components or the SIR wiring, you must disable the SIR system. Refer to Disabling the SIR System. Failure to follow the correct procedure could cause air bag deployment, personal injury, or unnecessary SIR system repairs.


The inflatable restraint sensing and diagnostic module (SDM) maintains a reserve energy supply. The reserve energy supply provides deployment power for the air bags. Deployment power is available for as much as 10 seconds after disconnecting the vehicle power by any of the following methods:

Turn OFF the ignition.
Remove the fuse that provides power to the SDM.
Disconnect the vehicle battery from the vehicle electrical system.
Disabling the SIR system prevents deploying of the air bags from the reserve energy supply power.
maybe all that is not needed... but its still good... and only takes an additional 2-3 min
