Hey boys,
a couple of months ago, I received notice of a recall for a possible starting problem that can cause backfire and other possible problems. Took the car to the dealer last month and had it done but yesterday the car wouldn't start! It turned and turned but nothing.
I decided to hit the gaz and it started up but I heard a loud bang from the engine compartment as well as heavy odor of gaz and a puff of black smoke???
WTF? Is it the same problem? I never had the problem before? Did the dealer replace whatever part with a defective part?

I dont know about a recall for the 00 but my guess is they may have upgrade your OS in your PCM (various fixes have been out for a while). If they actually REPLACED the PCM instead of flashing it you may need a CASE done.
Well a bang and black smoke on startup is definately a backfire. You really have to be careful abou that on those cars, those plastic POS intakes will crack right open with enough pressure.
:?: -FWIW, my '99 was called in last fall to replace the fuel pressure regulator. -I have no idea if any of the 2000'* were affected by this or not,,
But, defective fuel pressure regulators have caused a number of SERIOUS ENGINE BACKFIRES, including exploding the plastic plenum (UIM) and in the worst cases, underhood fires.
Anyway, just thinking out loud. Hopefully this is not the case with yours, just wondering
