Default 01 SSEi with dashboard rattle

I looked around, but couldn't find anything close enough. Sorry if info is out there already somewhere. i have a dash rattle, passenger side...driving me nuts. Are there clear instructions anywhere on removing the dash so I can look around...sure sounds like a loose something that just needs a turn or 2..
Thanks in advance!

What area on the passenger side is rattling?

I had a rattle coming from the passenger side that sounded like it was coming from under the dash, but it turned out to be the latch on the glove box was lose. I had to bend the catch bar up a little to make it close tighter.

I also have a rattle in the upper dash on the passenger side that seems to be coming from somewhere between the middle vent and the air bag (only in cold weather) and I cannot get it to stop. Taking the dash apart to get to that area would be a major pain in the $@#. I will just live with it.

definitely not from under, so my guess is it'* not the glove box. you're 2nd scenario sounds right on though. and now that you mention it, i didn't notice this until the winter weather started ... that'* what i was trying to guage is just how hard it would be to pull the dash off to take a look. if it'* crazy hard, then i probably will live with it too. but man, that rattle drives me NUTSO!

A good friend of mine worked at dealerships for 15 years. One day I learned a lot.

He had the dash out of a car. It was removed to fix a squeak/rattle. When I asked about it, he and the guy in the bay next to him laughed.... they then said "problem is..when it goes back in..it'll probably have twice the rattles and squeaks from being out."

If at all possible, try to get to the issue w/o taking it out on the premise you may end up worse off by pulling it out.

all makes sense. thanks guys...maybe i'll wait until the weather gets warm. if it'* still hanging around then, then maybe i'll look into it more. not sure how i'd be able to remedy it without taking it off, but if that created more noise...who knows what i'd do!

Do most of the other 00+ drivers have this noise, I know mine has a rattle by the passenger side vent by the windshield only when its cold out though.

Yup my 2000 has a rattle behind the glovebox somewhere up top in the dash. Sounds like a cable or connector keeps hitting something when I hit a large bump in hot or cold weather. Bill is probably right, best left alone and just crank the stereo a bit more!

Dashboard removal has got to be the most complicated job on the car; any car for that matter. It is absolutely the last thing I would ever want to do on a car. If there was ever a reason to spend $130 for a factory service manual, that would be it.

The manuals do mention squeaks and things...could probably get some hints as to what it could be.
