Would you notice the smell even if the heater isnt on. I even notice the smell on hot days and I leave the climate control at 70 degrees. The smell seems to be the strongest when im sitting still.
Have you recently gotten rid of Dexcool? When Mike2fix flushed dexcool out of the '98 the heater core went out soon after. I just flushed dexcool out of mine a couple hundred miles ago, and the heater core died. If the trend continues, the '02 will be next to go.

You'll notice the smell without the heater on depending on how much has leaked, but the heater makes it much more noticeable.

As an updated I purchased a new delphi heater core from rock auto for $97 with the discout which should be here in a couple days. The one from Schucks was out of stock =(. In the mean time I have bypassed the heater core and have the disgusting coolant smell burning my nostrils.

Thinking about this more last night. My 00 truck (Chevy) kept having a faint smell and I swear that the windows get filmed much quicker than they should. Dealer pressure tested it and always says there'* no leak.
