make sure not to get any on the o-ring or anything else rubber you come across, i believe it will slowly eat through it...

i was able to move it back and forth without trouble when i did it... just don't connect it to power without it being in the TB, or else it will shoot out somewhere... and i don't know if you can undo that easily.

the FSM actually states that you SHOULDN'T move the pintle on a used IAC, but on a new one if it'* extended further than 28mm from the mounting surface, you have to SLOWLY press it in until it'* less than that... so take it for what it'* worth, i never damaged mine.

after installing it, and the connector is hooked up, roll the ignition forward, wait a few seconds, then turn it off. do that two or three times, then attempt to start. that will let the ECM know where the maximum and minimum positions are. you'll likely need to do an idle relearn too, but that'* easy enough to explain.

it likely has to learn new IAC characteristics. unhook the battery(or the ECM fuse(*)) for a while, then it should go through a learn procedure when it gets up to temp.

most likey: the PCM is commanding it the way it commanded the old one, but since the newer one is likely flowing more air per step, the MAF picks up on that and the PCM adds fuel. now more air and more fuel will raise the idle speed a bit, so the PCM likely ran into one of the SAM(stay-alive-memory(battery backup)) limits on the IAC, so it has to retard spark at idle to get it stable and at it'* target speed.

it will eventually fix itself, but starting fresh is always a good idea when dealing with PCM commanded/read sensors and actuators.
