No way. It cannot be fixed by simply replacing the cover and diff. It'* too late. All that debris was building up in the trans long before the pin broke and sent the gears into orbit. The debris over time has very likely ruined alot of parts in the car and plugged up your trans cooler, starving your trans pump for fluid.

And yes, it is highly likely it'* from abuse. One-wheel burnouts are the primary cause of this. The other cause is modding for alot more power, even without one-wheel burnouts.

While quite likely the trans is fubared, I still say the first thing to do is drop the pan and check the magnet; then pull the filter, crack it open, and check its contents.

I had this happen to me a while back too. I admittingly did love the burnouts though. I cracked the same place with thesame internal damage roughly. First time, it was $2200 at the tranny shop (internal tranny gears), second time (dif like above), it was a $400 junkyeard tranny and a friend of a freind to put it in for a coupe hundred more. The last time lasted the longest .

I actually have the old one sitting around in the garage yet. I may need to tear into it this summer to see excatly what it did internally.

Every single case of this we've seen has caused (or been caused by) further damage inside the trans.

I havent looked at the pan/filter yet, I will asap..

I just want to add that he did drive the car up here [About 1/4 mile]
The car was pulling to one side, I think only one tire is getig power. so the gears are fucked, but the trany still works. [We drove it up the ramps]

The filter and fluid was changed b4 i sold the car to him,[about a year ago] It all looked good then, and it was a old!!! filter/fluid

I dont know how much he beat the car in a year , But it was a good car.

I Found some paint looking chips,
Found 1 in the pan and a few in the filter.

What should i try next?
For now im going to pull the axle.

How do you get the the axle out? i got it seperated from the trany and i took the bareing off.

I tryed to get the bolts off the strut but they wont come out, Are they under preassure?

If anyone knows weather a 4t65e'* diff and cover would be compatible, I may have one available from a 99' GP GT if you are interested.

I don't think you have to undo the strut bolts, just the tie rod and the sway bar end link and then swing it out enough to clear the hub.
