Default Would ABS cause this?

M'kay, I've had brake problems with this car since day one, most of them seeming to be a bad master cylinder. I think I've just killed the one that'* in there now. A guy cut me off this morning so I slamed on the brakes, It felt like they farted or something, and since then the brakes only work 1/2" from the floor, versus the 2" it used to be... Sound like I've messed up the master, or do you think the ABS could be doing it and not throwing any codes?

It'* not possible for ABS to affect your brake capability. If there was anything wrong with the ABS, it simply wouldn't work, leaving the base braking system unaffected, but incapable of ABS.

ABS either works or it doesn't. Failsafe system.

Definatly the MC... same damn thing happend to me when I got cut off on the xpress way and slammed the brakes and did a 360... anyways... the thing just killed all its seals and leaked out the back. and only worked about 1"-1/2" to the floor.

Wow I have never seen a MC fail that quickly. I know mine leaks down slowly when it is very cold out. When you said the brakes "farted", that is the ABS at work.

No, and no; before you definitely blame the master cylinder, get down and look on the inside of the rear wheels, and see if either of your rear tires are wet on their inner sidewalls (or if there'* a puddle inboard of one rear wheel where you parked). I'm thinking you've blown a rear wheel cylinder and are now running on only one circuit.

-- Is half of your brake-fluid reservoir empty or suspiciously low now?

-- Do you have any warning lights? (especially BRAKE?) (I assume you know the bulb is good: it goes on when you apply the parking brake, etc.)

My experience with GM has also been terrible regarding the rear wheel cylinders. Even if they do not shows sign of leaking, or seapage, I would replace them first beofre doing anything else.

Cheers,
