Maybe it'* due to computers? Pure OBD 1 seem to be able to get away with this, but all hybrids and Pure OBD II can't.

I didn't push it past 5k. I know there'* a cutoff up there.

5100 is the fuel cutoff, and i was there and it shut fuel down real quick

I reved my friends '92 Buick Regal to 5700rpm with no problem in park. I figured it had a 4k limiter, so I hit the gas a little and it just kept revving, by the time I let off it was at 5700. I think it would've kept climbing too. He said he has never hit a limiter of any sort in it, kinda weird.
