I have a 95 Bonneville SE Non SC.

Recently I noticed a whine coming from one of the accessories. It doesnt whine any louder when I turn the Steering wheel or AC, just a mellow whine all the time.

I do notice it more when it is cold, though.
Belt is about 1 year old.
Im thinking it may be the idler arm pulley, but I dunno.

Anyone have any ideas as to the problem and how much will it cost????

I usually take the belt off and spin the pulleys by hand, to see if they feel "smooth" when they rotate. They have sealed bearings, so they should rotate smoothly, but wont spin much if you spin it a hard one. The alternator is the same way, you'll just have to "feel" if they have a gritty feeling to them, or not. The idlers should be a economical fix, but I would encourage buying replacements from a reputable parts house. I have replaced many and the cheap ones just dont last long with the torsion that a serpetine system puts on them. I just purchased a lifetime alternator from NAPA and with my discount I still spent 130.00. Idlers should run around 20.00 or less?? Good luck.

You should be able to isolate it with a stethascope (sp) or use a long screw driver with ear pressed against it.

The pulley was all metal and looks beefier than the old one...
My old one ws plastic and "wimpy" looking. Perhaps an inproved design???
Good idea to replace the bolt too. Mine was "boogered up" on the threads.

Now I can drive without the insane whining noise!!!!

As I told Bob, anyone doing this should replace the bolt also. If the bolt is worn, the pulley will wobble, causing it to score the bearing sooner.
