if you put the resister in those two wires and car starts that was it . from 92-99 most gm cars had this problem with the vats keys everytime you turn the key these wires turn to. one or both break if your key is worn down that my be it. if not and you want it to work right you will have to replace the switch . then you will have to get new vats keys again. try your better key first if that works great. if that dont work try resister if car runs you can leave it that way. but sec light will flash all the time.

Thanks guys,
Neither key worked right. Security still flashes. I will talk to the key boys next door and see what they say. Maybe they can do it for me. This car was to be a "project" car, but I'm sick of doing anything to it other than driving at this point. If not its off to B&E electronics (Yes that'* the name, and yes it'* funny) lol

My resistance on one key is 11.64 and the other is 11.67. I sure hope this works. I also came in ill prepared today, no shrink tube or soldering gun, so this will be more like a test.

Well I grabbed a resistor that measured in and around 11.5, tossed it in there, and she fired right up.Thanks to all for the information here!
When I went under, the wire had already been spliced. I know the car was stolen back in the day before I owned it. I think the whole column was replaced, but I'm not 100% sure. Since I was away from home, I just opened the wires and twisted and taped the wires to the resistor. I will fix it better tonight or tomorrow.
It was super easy after I got the resistor. Took me seriously about 15 minutes, and half of that was to remove the kick panel, and locate the wire.
Anyone wanna have a guess at what is going to break next week? LoL
Just playin folks!
Have a awesome weekend!
Luv WeaD

Oh,
Also, I was told that my security light would always flash. For whatever reason it totally doesn't. I was pretty pumped when I noticed that.
Cheers

if you change the key switch sometime you will need new vats keys . if you do dont get the cheap onesget either gm or strattec keys .. any others the chips have been known to fall off not good if it comes apart inside the key switch

Nah man,
Its still all the original crap involved. Except the resistor anyways. I was just saying that I was told that the security dash light would be forever illuminated by my resistor hijinx. I have no prior experience with this type of thing, so until I am told otherwise, I believe I'm amazing! Maybe its the whiskey. I dunno. >_<
The dealership I called (they scanned my car for me free (that'* how I found my tranny P/N switch issue), even recommended I do this bypass when I brought it up.
I was like " hey mike, you scanned my car member me !" and he went "yea old school bonneville right", and I said "nice, hey man my VAT is acting up. Should I let you fix it, or should I bypass that crap". He said I should totally bypass it and quoted me $611.23 or something like this to fix it.
He even gave me advice. Reminded me of what color wire I was after, and what I would see.
Mike from the Regina, Saskatchewan dealership - Capital Pontiac Kicks @$$!!!
Just so we know that all dealership guys aren't $%#[email protected]$#%! lol
