ok, so this past spring I installed a good used right front wheel bearing/hub on my 99 SSEi. Well since July I've only put about 5 miles on the car. For the past 4+ weeks it been sitting in my parents back yard with the interior out to dry.
I put the drivers seat back in and started the car and pulled it around front to install the rest of the interior. As I was driving it around the block the wheel bearing was howling. Worse than the one I took off back in March/April.
Crazy thing is the wheel bearing was perfectly unnoticable the last time I drove it about 5-6 weeks ago.
Just venting..... wasn't the most fun the first time around and now this time I have to find another 3/4"-1/2" adapter so I can use the perfect ratchet for the job as my brother lost the one I had.
Anyone else had a wheel bearing go out just like that?

I have a used bearing if you need one, I got a set from a low mileage 98 and only used one of them.

This is why I personally wouldn't use a used wheel bearing unless I was selling the car very soon (shady, maybe) It is one thing I wouldn't want to be doing more than once.

Are you positive it'* a bearing and not just the rust on the rotors starting to wear off and clean up? You can get noise from rusty rotors w/o applying brakes.

Travis -How much do you want for it? It doesn't really matter to me as I can get one around here from a salvage yard for less than $30 so it'* not a big expense.


I checked the rotors... they are clean. defintiely not them as the sound stayed the same when braking. Not to mention it sounds just like when the first one when it went out.

Did you destroy the dust seal on the back when you pulled them? I'm thinking water got in there and sat for a while causing your problems.

What makes you think there would have been water up that high while it was sitting? :?
