I was changing the oil in my car today and neither me or my dad could figure out what those 3 semi-cylendrical shaped things are that are to the left of the spark plug wires. They each had 2 numbers on them, ranging from 1 - 6, so we firgured one for every two cylinders (V6). Can someone tell me what these are and what they do? Im just a little curious, thats all.

Those are the ignition coil packs. There ought to be six spark plug wires attached to them and one running to each cylinder.

They replace the distibutor in newer cars, running off of sensors instead of driven by the cam.

And if you go to Jegs.com you can replace them with shiny high performance red MSD ones. The red on them alone is good for 5-10 hp.

Is brminder saying that I can get more horses with MSD coil packs? If so tell me. I'm always lookin for cheap performance upgrades.
