Well i have bought my bonneville just a month ago, new engine, it was replaced in 1999, it has probably about 50-60,000 klm on it, what type of engine is it, and do i need to worry about this lower intake problem i have read about on the forums? freeks me out! anyhow any help would be great, thanks.

Nope..you're ok...the engine is a 3800 Series 1. It was built with an aluminum upper intake, similar to older 3800 (like mine). Plastic was introduced in the Series II, started in 95 on all normally aspirated engines

wow that was a fast reply, thanks, the engine and tranny are both fairly new, the guy i bought the car from paid close to 5000 canadian for the transmision (installed) i think a new TC as well, the engine was around 3000 plus instalation. i just have to figure out why i loose power sometimes and get a miss, as well as my charcole canister making a wierd pumping noise. i will look at that later today, weather is just awful. Oops. Jim goof. The Series 1 had a plastic upper intake also. SOME 92'* got the aluminum upper, but for the most part, most 92'* and every car from 93 up has the plastic.

Contrary to popular belief, the Series 1 plastic upper intake IS a problem also. It just fails in a different way than the Series 2. I've dealt with one on Jseabert'* car myself.

does that include the supercharged engines as well? and how can i tell if the engine has a plastic intake manifold?

The SC engines have an Eaton SC on top in place of the plastic upper. No problems with them. Are you SC? You should put your year and model in your sig. If you want to know what it is on your car (and you're not SC) just look at it. Is it black plastic? The 6 humps between each half of your engine cover? Might even have a recycle logo on the top.
