What Rear Shocks to get ?? 96SSEI
Hello, I am on my third Bonne (love these cars) and it'* a 96 SSEI with a 98 Gran Prix GTP supercharged plant in it (the little extra horsepower provides a great deal of extra fun) anyway I am looking to replace the rear shocks (some call them struts) on my 96 SSEI and I can't seem to find any originals for it..It has all the extras like self-leveling and CCR, does anyone have or know where i could get a good set of struts for this? I do not want to swich from the factory struts as I recently replaced the 2 front struts at a tremendous cost and I wish to keep the CCR functioning properly (this is because it works like a god-send when I am towing my trailer- I place it in firm ride and )
Any help would be appreciated!

if i am not mistaken, the rear struts for the cars equipped with CCR are no longer produced. If yours are still functioning (performance ride and normal ride are not BOTH lit) then I would stick with them until the system fails then switch over. The replacements for these cars are traditional gas-filled struts and they disable the system permanently.

Hello CCR loving buddy. It'll be a sad day when your connectors dangle freely as there are no CCR struts for us. The replacements are any of the makers struts that have the ELC nipple for the air and not CCR.
BTW, your 98 GTP engine is the same as the 96 SSEi engine that was originally in your car. Same motor..same power. I'm a killjoy this morning huh? Now if you tossed in a 2004+ GTP motor..then you'd have an extra 20hp.

As for the 98 motor - you're not a kill-joy because my 96 had had a rough life it was dying, also I went from Vin K with MFI to Vin 1 with SFI during the change-over, as well as a few little tweaks (well worth the time) and I have easily noticed the difference in the cars performance. As for the shocks - I know they don't make them anymore thats why I was trying to find a good used set (to no availe) I am still looking though because I DO NOT want my wires dangling or my dang CCR light on.

BTW - I have read a lot of your posts recently and I totally respect your opinions, you totally know your Bonneis which makes a Bonny owner like me smile, not only because you have so much good info to pass on but also because Bonnies are "THE" car for the intelligent person -
Right now my only "bad" shock is the one on the drivers side rear (as I have a used spare for the one on the passengers side if I ever need it - got both at the same time which is why I am not keen on placing the r/h rear "spare" on the l/h side unless really forced to.

The even more condemning news is they haven't made the struts since 99. Even junkyarding is nearly impossible and very few places will know if it'* good or not.
I had a few tears when disabling the system..trust me.
