Not at all. The flex might have had something to do with the starter dying though.
The starter turns the flywheel by engaging the teeth on the outside of the flywheel. The typical flywheel failure would be cracking/breaking at the bolts that hold the flywheel to the crank. Being that we put all our power through them and then through the torque converter bolts, it'* tough to fathom that a slow spinning starter (in comparision to revving engine rpms) could exert enough pressure or force to hurt the flywheel vs the torque we put through them to the ground.
If you remove the front mount etc, you "might" (don't quote me) be able to have enough room to sneak in and change the flywheel w/o having to pull the motor totally out. It would be a tight squeeze though.
