Vibration when truning right.
Car- 94 SE with 200K miles. Original engine, transmission, axles / CV joints. Axle boots are original and clean, intact and no grease leaking.
When I turn right and lightly accelerate there is a noticeable vibration or shimmy (feedback from car and steering wheel) that appears to be coming from the left front wheel.
Doesn't do it when I turn left. Doesn't do it if I am coasting and make a right turn. Only under a load on a right turn. At highway speed it is smooth as usual.
I jacked the car up and started the engine. Put it in drive and turned right and left. No sound / vibration.
I shut the engine off and manually pulled on the left front wheel in every direction. Nothing seems to be loose.
I have heard CV joints that are going out - they make a loud clicking sound when turning. I wonder if my problem is simply the joints going out, but without the clicking sound???

i have the same problem.

this post is so old im not sure u would reply
but ok. im having that problem where i turn right and i hear a sort of grinding/vibration, even in steering wheel. its almost like a whirl sound
maybe a year ago, my retard brother and his friend were trying to take off my ball joint on the right side and these were original bolt welded in. so his friend grabs a torch and trys to blast the sucker off and bang it. when doing that he melted my cv joint boot cover and grease leaked out and it was so f*ked up
when i drove you could tell something wasnt right, so i ordered a new boot, went to a mechanic thats a family friend, and he fixed it like new
except the grease that came with the boot didnt seem like enough like not nearly the amount that was discharged. so idk if he put enough in or what not, but not until more recently i hear this turning right
my question is the same, is it the cv joint? is it maybe not so greased? it is rack/pinnion steering, is it the wheel bearings? is somehting not greased enough? idk
any thoughts?

Check the wheel bearings. My Regal did the exact same thing when one of the wheel bearings went bad.
You can check a number of problems using the following method.
Jack up the car and grab the tire while it is still bolted on. With your hands at the 3:00 and 9:00 position, wiggle the tire left and right. If there is play, your problems could be:
1. worn tie rod
2. bad wheel hub bearings
With your hands at the 12:00 and 6:00 position, wiggle the tire up and down. If there is play, your problems could be:
1. bad ball joint
2. bad wheel hub bearings.
Eliminating either the worn tie rod or bad ball joint will help you narrow your problem to the wheel hub bearings, at which point you would need a new wheel hub.
The general consensus is that Timken wheel hubs are the best to use.
