Default UGH!! I Think I killed my Bonnie...

I just had that expeirence that every gearhead dreads.. Sitting in the front seat of the flatbed looking over his shoulder at his car sitting all strapped to the back..

Heres what happened.

I was pulling into the GSP, NJ'* highway, when a jack$%* cuts in the left lane forcing me to punch the pedal.. The bonnie jumps to 5 grand and stays there, I let off immeditaly, then she drops to 4, then 3 then settles at 2 grand at 40 mph. In between this my lights dim big time, the check light comes on, I look at my battery gauge and its in the red. The car stayed at 40 mph even with me giving it gas, it wouldn't budge and the tach was at the bottom. So I pulled over and shut her down. I waited a few minutes to re start. It cranked but no start. I tried a few more times and gave up. I called triple AAA.

He arrived about half hour later. The car starts right up for me. So he says if I want to drive home or not. We gave it some gas, reved up to 3 grand, car sounded fine so I said I'm doin it. I pulled out car was Ok, felt a little slow. Hit second gear and car didn't feel right at all. (I high beamed him to get his attention to wait for me.) She went but power was way down. I hit 40 and same thing again, lights dimmed engine light came on, tach dropped and I coasted over. But this time car died on its own.

So now its at my mechanic. When we got there, he took it off the flatbed, bonnie started right up again and we moved into a spot. My mechanic is there at 7AM. I rebuilt my tranny at 109k. Now I have 131k. My fluid is full and red.

Do you think I killed my tranny?? My motor??? The tow go said he heard a valve tap, but I couldn't tell, maybe a slight one. Or is it impossible to quess..

Any thoughts from you guys tonight??

Motor dies on it'* own...I don't think it'* transmission related...

Motor dies...hmmm not much to go on. hopefully it'* bad gas or something simple.

Unfortuantly I've never been that lucky.. The odds that its bad gas is remote, not me anyway.. Could it be a bad sensor in the transmission?? Could that cause my lights to go dim and a sudden lose of power?

I know, I have to stop quessing, I'll find out in the morning.. Theres nothing I can do about it.. Oh well.. All cars break eventually.

Can I get a moment of silence please.............

My bonnie, she is dead..

Quincy IE: my mechanic, said when my trans stuck at high RPM and then dropped suddenly and because I was at high speed under hard accerlartion..well you know what comes next... it blow my motor.. He drove it and said it moved real slow and was knocking and progressivley got worse in a few blocks before he turned around and went back..He told me there was no point in taking the motor apart to look inside.. Its dead..I know em', hes like 67, he knows cars..

So he said I can keep it at his property across from his shop until I decide what to do with it. I can't drive it home.. So either I give to the "We tow junk cars for free" or "We pay up to $150 for junk cars if in good condition" (yeah right) or I stick it on e-bay. (I would be honest about it not like others who make there non-running cars sound like easy fixes, "It run fine until last week, don't know whats wrong I'm sure its an easy fix")..

If it ends up I can't get anything for it, at least maybe 200 bucks or so, I'll post back and one of you guys can have it for whatever a junk man offers me for it, if anything at all. If they offer me nothing, then the first one who shows up with a flatbed, the title is yours.

I gotta try and get something for it. At least cover the cost of new tags and stuff if I can.
I paid $2200 for it in july of 03. I have close too $5000 in recipts of things I've done too it. (including a trans rebuilt) So I at least have to try...Can't fault me for that I would think..
I'll keep ya posted.
Thanks for your help.. I don't know if I can find another bonnie in my price range this fast, buy I'm goin try..

Default car

Have you considered a junk yard motor. Usually around 300 - $400. plus labor.

Sorry to hear about your Bonne!!

1) You could sell it cheap cheap cheap to someone like you said
2) you can part out all of the good parts (you might get more $$$ than if you sold it as a whole car
3) you can take the money your going to use to buy another Bonne and put it into a rebuilt crate engine.

Either way you go, I hope it works out for you.

You can try and find some used cars on: www.craigslist.com

Dont know if you ever heard of that site before, but just click on your state and then on Cars&Trucks and your on your way to happy searching. Thats where I found Pontiac1983'* Bonne for sale and bought it.
