Default TURNING SIGNALS

has anyone had the turning signal that is on the steering colume just totally break off???? I mean the turn signal is literally just hanging there by the wires. WTH anyways can someone help me out here how much would it cost for a new steering colume cover? Cause it looks like where the turn signal assembly attaches to the cover that little piece is broken.

One thing after another =/
thanks

Yep. The cast iron assembly inside the steering wheel column got brittle one winter morning and broke off.

Changing that part seemed a bit difficult, so I took the plastic cover behind where the multi-function lever goes off and hung the multi-lever to the tilt adjustment lever with a tie. Now, I have to put my hand in from behind to turn the cast iron piece left or right.

My short term solution until I get the courage to get to it. Safer than having no turn signal at all. All functions except for high beam now work.

That handle just clips in. There is no cast iron peice in there, you're turning the switch itself. The stalk is like $30. You pop off the cover next to the stalk, unplug the wires and pull the stalk out, clip the new one in.

no it isnt the stalk that is broken. It is acutally inside the column, the stalk goes into the piece that makes everthing happen when you turn the stalk like the wipers and the the washer fluid, then it attaches to the turn signal mechanism, where it attaches is broken =/ sucks, that was the last thing i thought would break on my car but i ill try to repair it tommorow

Ok, time to stop going to the gym. I've see the stalk break and leave the lever dangling, but never the internal that holds the stalk. WOW

Its the swtich i just bought a new one from the ponitac DEALER for $52 but i am going to install it some time soon and i will post pictures for whoever encounters the problem, it wasnt to hard to take the front of the steering column off, but i will also post directions on how to accomplish it.

The part is called the pivot switch. Unhook it from under the dash and pull it up through the steering column, be careful not to yank any other wires in there. Use a piece of string on the end under the dash and fish it up through with the old wires.

Good luck,
