Turn Signals
Hey guys.
I just started having this problem yesterday. First, after picking up my sister from her fiance'* house. I turn the signal handle to the right and the green right arrow just stays on but doesn't flash. I tried this with the left side and again vice versa. After some time, it started working normally as I was driving home.
In the evening, as I was driving, when I turned the handle, the signals flashed really fast, and then eventually slowed down. And it was doing this with both sides.
Today morning, as I was going to school, it was working just fine.
When I was heading home from school, they weren't working at all. When I turned the handle right or left, the green arrows weren't comming on and no exterior lights were flashing.
I checked for burned bulbs, but there arent' any. In fact, I just replaced a corner light last sunday afternoon. The steering wheel controls and the brake lights work just fine. Also, the four-way hazard flashers work fine too. Everything works fine except the turn signals.
I checked the fuses, and used a spare one with the same amperage, but still it isn't working. I replaced the flasher with a heavy duty one, but still the same. The four-way hazard flashers work, but not the turn signals....
Any Ideas???
Thanks a lot.

It'* your Turn Signal Flasher Unit. I'm sure it'* a seperate unit from the 4-way Flasher Unit because I replaced my turn signal unit last year. It was a little difficult to get to on my '91. Your results may vary.

I don't think it'* the switch(unless it'* loose or your holding it your hand as I type). I was really sure it was the flasher unit. Oh well. Better minds are right behind.

OK, let'* start at the top. First, I would replace that HD Flasher Unit with the OE Unit. Ya neva know! Next, make SURE that you're replacing the Turn Signal Flasher Unit and NOT the 4-Way Hazard Flasher. I am pretty sure they are two seperate circuits.

The turn signal and hazard are two different flashers. Since your hazards work fine, swap the flashers and see what happens. This will tell definatively is the flasher is at fault.
In my 93, the turn signal flasher is on the left side and the hazard is on the right side of the opening behind the trim panel under the steering column. Should be the same for your 97

Ok, guys. Maybe you're right, maybe I replaced the wrong flasher. Now, how do I get into there? Because I had my friend do it for me.

A million thanks to Randman1 and OlTimer!
Thanks to you guys I opened it up and fixed it myself, instead of waiting for someone else. And yes, it was on the left side. My friend had replaced the wrong flasher. The turn signal flasher was on the left, down, and hidden behind some wires. But anyway, I did it and I fixed it. Now I lowered my chances of getting a ticket.
