It was the Haynes manual. VERY in depth if I do say so myself. It already had the plastic shrink wrap off, so I was able to peruse the 4T60 section of it. Well put together too. Good thing I looked at the inside cover cause it said it didn't cover my trans. Wheww!

Haynes better than the Chiltons..wow..
My best suggestion would be either the full blown FSM'* or the Trans supplement (if applicable).
And aim for the updates as well.

Yea, I just purchased the trans manual from ATSG and I was able to download it. Still perusing the manual. Talk about indepth. Just hope that I can figure out what happened. Will try and keep everyone posted.

I think I may have found the problem.....
These just happen to fall out after pulling off the final drive assy cover

Here is the inside of the cover...

Another view...

Final drive assy....

Everything....

And, that is were I stopped to take a break and post this info. I have other pictures of the valve body disassembly process if anyone wants to see those.

Well, after posting my findings, I went back and tore the rest of it apart. Surprisingly, I only had to look at the manual once to reference something. This thing is so easy to take apart and put back together. Well, the clutch packs and planetary carriers, and band clutches. Pretty simple once you do it a couple of times.
Mike, that'* what happened to mine, but it totally destroyed the cover. And I had debris eating up every other internal component. Including clogging the radiator core trans passages, and two external trans coolers.

I looked at everything inside and I couldn't find any other damage beyond the drive assy cover. What would be your recommendation. Junk yard for a new final drive? Or order one new? I tried Googling the parts, but unable to find a decent source.
