Sensors behind the side pan:

Input speed sensor (this one would cause the slamming)
TFP Valve position sensor
TFT (fluid temp) sensor

w/o an input speed sensor, the tranny guesses based on other factors (speed, throttle, etc) what to expect, and times shift based on that. works pretty well, but as you've found, it'* not perfect...
