Default 1996 no-start condition-failed upper just replaced

Ok, here'* the story: my 96 non-sc motor (93k) just did its thing with the upper mani. I found a hole in the EGR port that was patchable with some epoxy I had...yeah I know its not the best fix, but I have to wait a month before I get my Pell check to fix it right. Anyways, I got a new gasket set for it from A-zone, slapped it all on this morning, cranked...and nothing. Hydro-locked. ARGH! I took out the plugs, cranked again...this time it spun, so no lock! Spun it for a while to flush coolant out of the chambers, then put plugs back in with the exception of one...it was cracked, and before I spend the money for new plugs, I want to make sure the motor will at least fire, so I left it out. Still no start. I double-checked my sensors and all are hooked up, no probs on that end. I know its getting fuel because I smell it comming out of the cylinder that doesnt have the plug. Don't know if its getting spark. I have no OBD reader, gonna see if I can get one later tonight or something. Any suggestions? The car ran before the tear-down.

right.

#1. if you want your car to last, drain your oil. now.
#2. what do the ends of your spark plugs look like? are they fouled up? they've been sitting in coolant for what sounds like more than a day...

#3. post in the sticky of the 92-99 forum if you have a rochester or delphi upper intake

ps.

poor man'* spark test - pull spark plug. put wire on end of plug. (with pliers) hold spark plug down to upper radiator mount to properly ground. have friend crank engine. if you see a spark, guess what - you've got spark. if not, make sure you're making a proper ground. if you are, your plugs are shot.

which they probably are.

update:

Changed the oil and checked the plugs...plugs were mostly wet with fuel and a little gunky, but still should have fired. Got a dead battery now from crankin too much...going to get it charged tonight and try again. Hopefully it will start, I don't think there was enough juice to get the plugs poppin.
