Traction Control Trouble
I have recently started having trouble with my traction control. When I accelerate, the Check Engine light flashes and the Traction Control Off indicator lights up. After getting up to speed, the light stops flashing, and the TC light goes out. When this happens, there is some backfire, and slipping of the front wheels. When the light goes back out, everything returns to normal. If I shut the TC off manually, the CE light still flashes, and I have filled the brake resivour, and installed new front wheel hubs, but nothing changed. The rear ABS wires are in good shape and plugged in. I was only able to read through about 20 pages of posts on this subject last night, but there was one that mentioned a loose intake manifold. Could I have a vacuum leak or is the backfire caused by the timing changing. Does the "flashing" Check Engine light signify a particular problem?
I agree with the boss...could be anything really...a fault in the abs system/module...a bad master cylinder/booster...bad pcm...bad spark plug wire...etc....all guesses....
I have an appointment Sat. morning to find out what the trouble is. I will post the codes and what they find. Went and got my EGR gasket today, and plan to clean it as soon as I get back from the mechanics.
Got her back from the mech today and boy do I feel like a noob. Turns out the #6 plug wire was touching the manifold when the motor moved while revving. It was causing the engine to cut out and that apparently was causing the Traction Control to shut down. He said the computer was probably doing it to compensate for a lack of power or somthing. I do have a leaky intake manifold, but the car runs great now, and I will deal with the manifold soon enough. Gm wants a lot for the manifold, turns out it was a p.o.c. from the start. The connection to the EGR has rotted out. any recommendations on an after market manifold? Hopefully I will just have to replace the upper one.
