Default Throttle Body Buzz

I was looking at a used 97 GTP for my daughter-in-law (103,000 on the car - not her). When it was first started, there was what I'd describe as a buzz or hum coming from the general area of the throttle body. It decreased greatly in volume as the car warmed up. It does not sound to be SC related, although that does seem to have a slight rattle. My 96 Buick'* N/A 3800 started to do that also, just before I sold it, so I never checked that out. Anyone ever experience that, or know what it may be?

Sounds like a faulty IAC as that should be the only highish amp draw in the area.

Sounds like you need a stethoscope.

Thanks, I'll check that out. I've got 2 stethescopes - an old one I got from a doctor years ago, and an electronic amplified one. Unfortunately, I didn't have them with me as it was one of those "spur of the moment" stops as I was driving by.

If the SC rattles at idle only, change the coupler in the nosedrive.

Thanks, yes - it does seem to be just at idle. This forum gave me lots of things to check for when I looked the car over. I've picked up a lot of good information here. My daughter-in-law hasn't seen the car yet, so I'll see what she decides. It runs, and handles well, but I think the dealer'* price is just a touch high at $6,000.

A couple of other things that have to be considered, it looks as if the */c belt at least frayed (if not broke) at one point, as there'* a tear in the inuslation under the hood right abvet it. It looks as if there was some type of liquid involved as it is stained around it. I could find no leaks in that area, but did by the oil pan. He said he just replaced the front valve cover gasket and that could have been the problem. I'm not sure it isn't the rear seal. Also, the resonator has been replaced with a straight pipe, and plexiglass has been screwed over where the driver'* side headlight lens would be, and some minor under-body rust. All things to think about.

Jus ttry wiggling stuff too, Maybe the TB itself is loose, or the plate could be? I would check the IAC first, just unplug it and see what happens... :?

Is it packing a filter under that plexi?
