-please read my response to the post by RyFly05 on how to find a ticking valve-

Mine developed a "valve tick" one weekend, and it only happened during acceleration. Mine was definitely caused by gummy deposits on valve stems, caused by the famous 3800SeriesII upper manifold coolant leak. I accomplished the common "upper end" cleaning techniques (-purchased the solutions from GM dealer), as well as oil detergent too. That fixed the ticking. (-needless to say, I fixed the coolant leak as well).

And have had no related problems since.

Oh, and at the risk of offering "too much information," for anyone that finds any enjoyment in "automotive engine science:" The reason that a "marginal" valve ticking sound will be most prominent during acceleration, is because that is when your cylinder pressures are greatest, which makes the valve train work many times harder to open the valves. -exhaust valves in particular, because they have to open while the cylinder pressure is quite high.
