Can somebody tell me where they purchased there t-stat at is there one brand better than another or what? Also what should I look for in a trans cooler?

Autozone has a t-stat and a universal tranny cooler. Just ask at the counter, they should be able to help ya.

I assume you're wanting a 180° to replace the stock 195°? If so, just tell them that at the parts counter. Don't forget the fiber housing gasket AND rubber seal.

Are there side effects from this modification as far a fuel economy.

Yet, some have commented that there was no change. :shrug:

If that were always true, then if I put the 195 back in my car, in place of the 160, I'd get like 32mpg.

Try it and see what happens. It'* worth a shot.

Hey folks, new guy here. Been lurking for a few weeks, and thought I'd jump in here.


Regarding t-stats, the quality has taken a dumper on these things in the last 10 years. To avoid some of the cycling (on a 195 - opening at 205, falling to 180, swinging back and forth - then finally settling down, those types of things) - the hot ticket - pun intended, is to drill two 1/8" holes thru the thermostat, 180 degrees from each other. It will ELIMINATE the cycling, and it will also drop the temp rating around 5-10 degrees. It slightly adds to the warmup time, but I can certainly live with that. No drop in fuel economy (I get 29 on the highway with wife and 2 kids - and 25 in mixed driving - car just turned 120K).

Bought my 95 in 2002, intake was replaced prior to my purchase. Hope its a good one. And thanks for the tip on the foglights. I impregnated a racoon with foglight parts last week, and got a $56 quote on a new one. Those Navigators from Wally-World are the cats ***!

My 180 is drilled

Alot of that depends on your climate. It'* alot easier for me to get away with that on the West Coast than it would be for someone in MN. For that to work, you'd need to use 2 thermostats by season.

But you're right, it'* a good mod. Just make sure you de-burr and rinse the stat well after drilling.
