Default swapping a 96-99 into a 95 (3100)

My sister has a 1995 Olds cutlass with the 3100 in it. She overheated the car and blew the head gasket. I found a 2nd gen 3100 from a 96 grand am for cheap. I was wondering if it would bolt into the olds or if I would have to do any mods. Any help would be appreciated.

My basic question is would a 2nd gen 3100 (96-99) fit into a 1st gen (92-95). Thanks.

I'm not sure what you mean by second gen.

This is an L82 which was available in 1994-1998 Grand Am'* and many other GM'* until 1999

This is an LG8 available in 2000+ Grand Prix, Century, Malibu, and Lumina

I think what he'* asking is will it drop in which i think is a yes. Although you will maybe have to switch over some of the sensors as your taking a engine from a obd 1.5 to a obd 2. And What Jon is saying is there shouldn't be any difference between the years in engine other than electronics (maybe).

Well if you're swapping the L82 for the LG8, there is some modification necessary. You need to swap the alternator bracket and alternator, AC compressor and passenger side dogbone mount and bracket. The fuel rail and fuel injectors and the entire engine harness. Also, you need to either buy a EGR adapter or EGR delete kit from WOT-tech.com.
