My oil pressure isn't getting out of the red at all, city or highway.

How hard is it to change the oil pump on a 98 Bonnieville SE?

Low oil pressure is often indicative of a worn out lower end as opposed to oil pump problems.

Low oil pressure is often indicative of a worn out lower end as opposed to oil pump problems.
And is very likely an indicator of a much more serious problem:

127,000 miles. Intake gasket blew a month before the oil pressure problem. The car didn't over heat it was shut down right away. There is a rapping noise on the top end. Not bottom.

You might want to start your own topic about this...

When the intake went...did you replace the lower intake manifold gaskets? If not, you're probably continually running coolant into the oil...hows your coolant level? what does your oil look like?

also, to the person that had HIGH oil pressure, why would you want to lower this down? high pressure isn't bad, high pressure is GOOD. they sell kits at intense to make your pressure HIGHER in a higher performance, modded 3800...but still, high is not bad. unless its pegged, and then you've just got a bad sender.

too high can be metal shavings, etc plugging things up and causing higher pressure but lower flow. It can be bad

The mechanic found a cracked oil pressure sender thingy, when he took it out to use his oil pressure gauge. That takes care of that. It still has a top end rap. He thinks it'* a stuck lifter and put in an oil treatment. It quieted down some with that. We have to drive it a while.

Bigdog, please start your own topic instead of hijacking this one. You have a totally different set of issues.

Im not saying there is a problem with your car but before I found out my main bearing was shot my oil pressure would go down to zero and then if you punch it the oil pressure wouls shoot right back up no problems runnig though
