Not startin!!! Plz help
Ok so my car has been sittin on the driveway for pretty much a year cuz I was in texas but I've come back. I got a new battery and the car started up no problem.
Yesterday I got tags and put them on. I started the car wit no problem and took it for a run around the neighborhood. I've had a problem wit my car for a long time, and that is that it heats up very quick. When I'm on highway it is no problem but when I drive it on city and stop and go it heats up quick. Yesterday I let it idle on park while I watch the engine. It idled for maybe 7-9 minutes and it got pretty hot. Over the 200 on the gauge. Anyways I took it for a drive to see how the steerin and brakes as well as throttle were foin and no problem there.
I came back and parked on driveway and not even 5 minutes later I went back to start it again and nothin!!!! It juz clicks once. Radio, and lights still work juz fine. I tried to jump it this mornin and nothin still. My stepdad said the heat from the engine could have impaired the started temporarily. But a day later it still does not start.
Sorry for the long post I was juz tryin to be detailed. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Aim to the battery cables. Frequently the 87-99'* have corrosion at the battery. I would skip trying to tighten them and go straight to removing them at the battery, remove the bolts and clean the cables up. Pay close attention to how much corrosion appears to be heading into the cable.
That should get it going, the next question will be how long til you have power issues from the cables if there is corrosion down in. This has been known to manifest itself as a P0171 Lean Bank 1 issue on the 96+ cars.

Hey thanks very much for the quick reply.
I'll check the cables. I'm sure the bolts are clean, I replaced them before I left for texas.
If the cables were corroded, wouldn't I have a problem wit the radio and windows?
Also, which cable r we talkin about? The red one or black one?

Trust me..been there had that issue. (I've had lots of issues)
Both cables. Can never know which one or both are the problem. Clean bolts aren't enough and the radio and even high beams are bad indicators from the stuff we've seen.
Should be easy either way..worst case is you have to reset the clock on the radio.

It worked! I removed the red cable and noticed it could use a good cleanin so I grabbed a wire brush and a flat head screwdriver n shined them! I also removed some of the plastic that had apparently melted on to the surface of the metal connector head that touches the battery end. I connected the cables back on tight and the car started no problem!
Well except the idle was rough. It would go really low on rpms as if it was gonna stall but I'd give it a bit of gas. Only enough to make it jump up on rpms. I did this about 4-5 times till it finally evened out to about 1200 rpms. I'm guessin it did that cuz of the engine was cold. Although its not cold here, about 50 defrees F.
I let it get warm to where the temp read 130 on the gage then I turned it off. And waited about 3 mins and started it back up and it turned on no problem. Idle was fine the 2nd time.
What do u think now?
