I need some Vats help
Hello, I just bought a 1996 Bonnie (basic car, not the SSE) I have a couple of questions regarding VATS. My car had been sitting for 2 years, and the keys were lost. When they ("mechanics" ) needed to move the car they drilled the ignition lock, and destroyed it. First, is there a way to find the resistance value so I can bypass vats with the fix that is on the forum (Running resistors to mimic the key)? Second, if this isnt possible I can get a key cut using the VIN at a stealership. The next question is will it matter if I use a different lock cylinder, because the key is the resistor. If the lock cyl is just the vehicle by which the resistance is read, the key provides the correct resistance in the lock cyl. I can just re-key the lock cyl at a locksmith. Am I wrong on this? Thanks

Take a look here, https://www.gmforum.com/electrical-133/bypass-vats-92-99-a-279119/ This should help a lot.

Hello Dan, Great info. I put up my question incorrectly. I think the biggest question I have is this; I know I will need to buy a new key from the stealership from the VIN, but, if I buy a used lock cylinder, and have it rekeyed to the new VATS key, will the lock cyl work with the VATS I have on my car?
