Turn signal return
Does anyone know how easy/difficult it is to repair/replace the turn signal return spring in a 94 Bonny. It'* a pain in the a** to manually return the stalk after every left turn! I have the funny feeling this is not an easy task nor will it be cheap.

Actually I haven't myself been into a column before. Some have told me its a big job, I was hoping for some quick tips or advice before I decide to do it myself or not. The manuals may be a good idea but I may be selling that car soon so seems hardly worth the expense. On the other hand a manual for my 2000 SSEi seems worth it!

Thanks Bill, Maybe I'll try that. Gonna sell it anyways so maybe I'll let the next guy worry about it! I just would like to give the next owner a good solid car!

Heh, didn't notice it was a 94.... Here'* how you do it.
It could be either the Turn Signal Cancel Cam, or the Turn Signal Switch. This procedure will get you into the right area and let you figure out which one you need. I suggest buying the parts from a local dealer and letting them know that one of them will be coming back. The parts may be special order, meaning you can't return them.
Factory Instruction My Comment
1. ) Disconnect the power.
a. ) Remove the negative battery cable and insulate it.
b. ) Wait 10 minutes for the DERM module to power down. This is so the airbags don't go off
2. ) Disabling the SIR System (airbags)
a. ) Turn the ignition switch "OFF"
b. ) Remove the "SIR" Fuse. Fuse 7 in the I/P Fues Block
c. ) Remove Lower Trim Panel. That'* the black plastic peice up under the dash, it'* held by two screws near the front and two nuts near the back. When you get it down, Twist the base of the light to remove it.
d. ) Remove Connector Position Assurance and yellow two-way SIR connector at the base of the steering column. There'* a peice stuck sideways in the connector, slide it out first. I use a pocket knife to dislodge the tangs. I seriously suggest not being in front of the air bag when you do this, I lay in the floor board.
3. ) Removing the Steering Wheel and Airbag.
a.) Remove the four Torx head bolts haolding in the air bag. They're on the backside of the steering wheel.
b. ) Remove Airbag. This thing can blow up from static in the air technically. Never point it towards you. Never sit it in the sun. Get this thing out of the car and away from you.
c. ) Remove large center nut. This thing is tight.
d. ) Mark steering wheel and steering shaft alignment. I use a sharpie
e. ) Remove steering wheel using steering wheel puller. You can get one for like $15 at autozone. I'm not sure if the kit will have the right bolts. Have a spare car handy.
4. ) Starting down the column.
NOTE: Place ignition to "LOCK" position to prevent uncentering coil assembly.
a. ) Remove Coil assembly retaining ring. Use snapring pliers
b. ) Remove Inflatable Restraint Coil Assembly. I think it just pulls off
c. ) Remove Wave washer. I know this just pulls off
d. ) Remove Shaft lock retaining ring. You have to push down on the shaft lock plate to have a chance of getting this off. There'* a tool for it, But I make someone else push down on the plate while I get the ring
e. ) Remove shaft lock plate. Slides off.
f. ) Remove Turn Signal Cancelling Cam.
g. ) Remove Upper bearing spring.
Stop here and look at your peices. Is the new Turn Signal Cancel Cam just like the old one? If it is, Keep going. If not, Stop here, You found the problem.
Woah, Looking in here, there'* really no way I could expect you to follow this any farther. If it'* not the cancel cam... I'll have to help you in pm'* to get it done.

Whoa! As soon as you say airbag there'* no way I'm attempting that fix! I had them go off once already in my face when I hit a deer at 60 mph! Not gonna happen! But thanks for your detailed instruction. It sure helped me decide to have the next guy worry about it! Thanks again!

Brian...if you don't wanna fix it...drive it down to me..I'll buy it from you cheap since it'* broke and fix it.
The air bag is easy dude...just pull the fuse...wait 45 min and pull it off. I felt the same way the first time I did it. It'* not that bad
