Default Securtiy Light Stays On 92 Bonnie

We have a 1992 Bonnevile, and just today the security light stays on. We do not have keyless entry, just regular, and for sure all the doors are closed. No indication on the monitor panel that something is open.

And suggestions is appreciated.

The security system isn't detecting the key. Try cleaning the chip thats in the key and take an resistance (ohmmetter) reading across it to make sure its not open.

Thanks popatim, I will give that a try. I am looking at it right now, and the little metal tabs are looking pretty worn. Do you go from one side to the other side of the chip with the ohmmeter?

Thanks Joe

I just tried my wifes key, and it is in real good conditon, and the light still stays on. The problem must be in the key switch itself, what do you think?

does the vehicle still turn over and start? my friend had a olds cutlass supreme with the vats system chip in it and his security light stayed on while the vehicle was running. what is your trim level on your bonnie? is the light just flashing while the car is off, or does it stay on while the vehicle is running as well?

Ok, first the light just stays on while engine is running. It never goes off except when the ignition is off. The light does not flash it is just a steady light when you are driving around.

I dont know what you mean about the trim level

My trunk is just a mechanical trunk, no electric opener, but I will investigate in it and see if I see something.

Thank you all for the good tips.
