That may be your VATs acting up. Take a look at this write up. Try cleaning the chip on the key.

Last week my main actually set off my security unit and it locked the car down for 3 mins, was a pain because i was busy at the time and didnt need to have to wait but it came back up after 3 mins and hasnt done it yet but i fear it will only get worse... take the advantage while it still works and find a resolution, something like this is gonna be a start with the simple and cheap options and work up or take to a dealership and let them do the same lol
simple 2 cents
good luck

Thinking out loud here...
Doesn't it state in the FSM that if the resistor in the key is bad the car shouldn't start? That'* always been my understanding... does the system run more than one check on the key beyond one initial to start the car? I thought the key was a one and done check.
There are sensors on the trunk and hood that can trigger the light as well as a module that can give off a bad light.
Unfortunately that module is deep under the dash.
Who has a moment to look this up in the FSM and give the OP the basics of the testing to figure out what is causing the light?

I had a similar issue the other night. I went to start my car, and the security light came on instead. It sounded like a bad start, like I didn't have the key turned for long enough. However, instantly (and not three minutes later), I turned the key again and it started right up, but with the security light on.
Next time I started the car, the light went off and all is well. My key looks fine. I'd rather keep VATS enabled, so does anyone have a list of things to check?
